Behavioral Evaluations

Not sure what’s going on with your dog? Let’s figure it out—together. Whether it’s barking, reactivity, fear, or something you just can’t quite explain, a behavioral evaluation gives us space to talk through what’s happening, why it might be happening, and what can actually help.

What is a Behavioral Evaluation?

A behavioral evaluation is a one-on-one consult where we take time to understand your dog’s behavior in context—past experiences, current environment, daily routines, and the specific challenges you’re facing. It’s not a training session, but a conversation and observation-based session where we figure out what’s really going on beneath the surface.

Why Request a Behavioral Evaluation?

When a dog is acting out or shutting down, it’s usually their way of telling us something’s not right. Instead of jumping into training or trying to correct the behavior, we take a step back and ask why it’s happening in the first place. A behavioral evaluation gives us space to understand the full picture—so we can respond in a way that actually helps, not just manages symptoms.

How Does it Work?

We’ll meet either in person or virtually for 90 minutes. I’ll ask questions, observe your dog, and we’ll talk through what you’ve been seeing and what your goals are. Afterward, I’ll send you a clear summary and recommended next steps—whether that’s private lessons, management strategies, vet referrals, or something else. You’ll leave with a better understanding of your dog and what to do next. Some evaluations are best done in your home, but most evaluations I ask that you come to me in Broadalbin, NY. I am 30 minutes from Saratoga and about 45 minutes from Albany and Schenectady.
